DUCATION MALAYSIA GLOBAL SERVICES SUPPORT THE RECOMMENDATION BY THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE ON RE-OPENING NATION’S BORDERS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
On June 17, 2020, Senior Minister of Defence, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob said the Malaysian government would consider opening the country’s borders and allowing international students to return to Malaysia during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO). This was followed by receiving applications from international students to allow them to return to Malaysia to further their studies. Therefore, the special Cabinet committee will present the best way to apply the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) to international students.
According to Mr Mohd Radzlan bin Jalaludin, Chief Executive Officer of Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), he fully supports this effort to re-open the opportunity for international students to further their education in Malaysia. EMGS also believes that strict SOPs will be proposed to ensure that the entry of these international students does not impede efforts to eradicate the COVID-19 outbreak. EMGS has also drafted a SOP proposal for international students to be submitted to the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
EMGS welcomes the arrival of international students to Malaysia in line with the goal of making Malaysia as the preferred global education hub. The presence of international students will help to revitalize the nation’s economy.
